Mind Mapping Software has failed for me, here is what has worked

I am still doing some heavy duty planning for 2015 and tried a bunch of mind mapping apps, and once again failed at all of them.   As you probably know, mind mapping software and apps let you draw a diagram of your ideas, projects or whatever.   Usually there are boxes or circles you can make of different sizes, shapes and fonts, and you can show the relationship between the elements with lines and arrows.

They are trying to simulate the use of a white boards I suppose, but here is the problem:  the whiteboard is VASTLY superior for this kind of work.    What I am finding to be far more effective is simple outlining software.  Outlines are a great way to organize your thinking about a project, or just about anything.   Plus, there is one thing they can do that people using paper or a whiteboard really cant - they can offer an infinite number of outline levels (or lots of them anyway).

I just dusted off this one called Workflowy that I used several years ago, and while it hasn't changed much it is still a great little tool.   I don't use it for scheduling ,I like other tools like Asana better, but this is great for information that is a bit more static.   It is super easy to learn and get started so check this out if you are looking for a good organizing tool.
